So How Does the Circadian Optics Lattis Work?

Circadian Optics set about changing the world of light therapy right from their inception back in 2016.

Their aim it to make SAD lights that are effective in combating Seasonal Affective Disorder, but stylishly designed and far away from the traditional image of light boxes of being big, clunky, medical looking devices.

They were founded by Amber Leong after she moved from Malaysia to Minnesota to attend University. Struggling with the long, dark winters she bought her own light therapy lamp, but realised she could make a much better one.

And guess what?

It seems like she did! Circadian Optics have doubled its revenue in each of its first three years of operation and rapidly expanded their range of products.

So let’s take a closer look:

The Circadian Optics Lattis uses LED lights that match the pure white color of the noonday sun – 5500K. The light is full spectrum and free of UV.

It has a one touch operation that cycles through three different brightnesses (going from brightest – medium – lowest). The brightest setting is 10,000 lux and you need to be 8 to 16 inches from light to feel the full effect.

The Lattis measures 15.8 inches by 5.5 inches by 2.6 inches and weighs 1.68lbs. The actual light face is 2.5 inches by 8 inches. It comes with a two-year warranty.

The Good

News Flash:

Circadian Optics make some good looking SAD lamps, but this is the best and most stylish of the bunch.

Circadian Optics themselves admit that the light was designed as a ‘functional work of art’. Its asymmetrical segments give it an art-deco look, making it an interesting and eye catching item.

What is more:

It is actually made of plastic, but its matte black coloring means that from anything more than a couple of feet away it could quite easily pass for being made of metal or dark wood.

All-in-all it is very elegant and will fit nicely on any countertop.

Circadian Optics Lattis

Speaking of which…

It has a small footprint, measuring just over 15 inches, so it won’t take up much space wherever you plan to put it and it certainly isn’t invasive.

The compact nature of the Circadian Optics Lattis means it is easy to transport and move from location to location as well

As ever…

The light quality itself is great. You have three brightness settings, cycle through them by pressing the power button on the back, and at the top setting of 10,000 lux the light is warm and natural, but not in anyway jarring.

It doesn’t have the harsh edge to it that some SAD lights do – instead it feels even and smooth.

All-in-all

Considering the design and the quality of light this is a great price and a great option if you want an ultra-stylish SAD light.

The Bad

As with most Circadian Optics products, this is simple, stylish and there is very little to fault.

But…

The touch on/off button is super sensitive. Even the slightest brush turns it on and it actually makes moving it around quite awkward as you can easily accidentally turn it on when you pick it up.

What is more:

The power cord could be better positioned, it plugs into the middle of the back and also juts out so you can’t put it flush against anything.

It also slightly disturbs the lovely aesthetic of the lamp to have the power cord hanging out of the middle of the lamp. It would be much nicer if it plugged into the base of the Lattis, so it was more inconspicuous.

Finally:

It would be nice if the light could tilt slightly. It can’t, it is completely stationary, whereas the look of the design could lend itself to the light tilting.

The Beautiful

This wins the award for most beautiful SAD lamp I think!

As mentioned previously it actually looks like a beautiful, decorative lamp, with a nice clean silhouette and a wooden look despite the fact it is actually made of matte plastic.

And Does it Work?

Yes it does. Lots of reports of its effectiveness at boosting energy levels and lifting moods. Some even go as far as calling it life altering.

SAD charity SADA have released figures showing that light therapy is effective in up to 85% of diagnosed cases of Seasonal Affective Disorder. This is backed up by study after study that show light therapy makes a difference to those suffering with SAD:

In short – the chances are it will make a difference for you!
